Far From Home - Tiga (DFA Remix) (mp3)
Far From Home - Tiga (video)
Tiga and Ladytron on the same night! The electro will by quite abundant indeed. I would go just to hear this spectacular DFA remix of Tiga’s Far From Home. Expect lots of asymmetrical haircuts and skinny suits. Meanwhile check out the charming Tiga video of the original song. And pray to the Electro Gods that Tiga will be pulling those dance moves at the party.

Also any one looking for free food and booze can always hit up this New York Press Party. They never lack in those catergories. Plus our favorite Parisian Delight Melody Nelsonwill be DJing there as well.

I Don’t Feel Like Dancing (Erol Alkan Carnival of Light Re-Work) - Scissor Sisters (mp3)
It’s scientifically proven that anything Erol Alkan touches turns to gold. Not only is he one of the best DJs in the world (Bugged Out!, Trash), he also is one heck of a producer that wins him a place next to DFA in the pantheon of Fucking Ridiculous Remixers. His latest conquest is Scissor Sisters’ new single, I Don’t Feel Like Dancing off their new album Tah-Da. Some people have been complaining that the Sisters new album is too Bee Gees Disco. Fear not cus the Scissor Sisters have one Ace up their sleeve. The best remixes are the ones that take a single element of the original–no matter how good or bad the song is–and craft a whole new song with that one element as a foundation. I guess my english teacher was right; the best results comes from writing a whole paper and taking the final idea and crafting a whole new paper base on that single idea. It’s worked before. The DFA used this method for their remix of Soulwax’s Another Excuse which resulted in what I consider the best Dance Song and Remix in this past decade. Erol Alkan literally takes one synth swell buried in the chorus of the the Sister’s song and makes a subtle electro/microhouse masterpiece.
Diesel Party Recap
Thursday, September 21st, 2006As the trail dust left behind by the fashionistas, designers, models, muscians, DJs, and socialites settles back down in NYC, let us reflect on the parties past.
Best Party of Fashion Week
Diesel After Party, Gotham Hall
After a forty minute wait through the pressline, I walk into the giant cathedral like party venue and noticed a stage at one end. I asked my friend who was playing the party tonight. “Um, James Brown I think?”
Soon after a hymn filled the entire dome; a hundred person choir now appeared on the balcony.
Please Welcome the Hardest Working Man in Show Business!!!”
Um Yup. So this party is kinda good. I walk over to get some free martinis at the bar. I heard the electro bass of Another Excuse - Soulwax (DFA Remix) coming through the Soundsystem. Now understand, whenever any DJ drops this remix I am immediately assured that the DJ knows what s/he’s doing. So I turn around to see who it was. Oh okay Soulwax/2ManyDJs themselves.
Okay 2ManyDJs, James Brown. A little ridiculous. To top it off, I met models that went best moment over BohemianPlayboy. Who figured?
Pretty mindboggling huh? Check out the rest of BohemianPlayboy’s Fashion Week at PhotoSleeve
Remember Soulwax/2Many DJs tonight!!!
A Final Toast to Summer
Saturday, September 16th, 2006
As the summer days become shorter and shorter, I just wanted to share with you guys two artists that played a central role in many of my summer playlists. The soundtrack to outdoor BBQs, summer dresses, badmington in the park, beach adventures, and the general bustle of summer in the city. Both artist hail from the land of São Paulo, Brazil. Does this mean São Paulo is the world’s main exporter of summer goodness?

London, London - Cibelle featuring Devandra Banhart (mp3)
Watch Cibelle Video
“London, London” was originally written by the great Cataeno Veloso when the Brazilian Government exiled Caetano and Gilberto Gil because their music become to powerful. The original is a song of yearning and peaceful resignment of exile in a foreign land; However, through Cibelle and Devandra Banhart’s inerpretation, the song now exudes the charming wonderment of being lost in beautiful city. Updated with subtle blips and churdles of electronica behind the samba guitar, this song can be found on her latest album The Shine of Dried Electric Leaves.

Let’s Make Love and Listen to Death From Above - Cansei de ser Sexy (mp3)
Watch CSS Video
The other gang from São Paulo are Cansei de ser Sexy which literally means Tired of being Sexy in their native tongue. The band counts five Brazilian Girls and one sleazy guy with a porn mustache. Oh and their singer is named LoveFoxxx. Not only does this song win best title ‘06 but it’s also a great fun playful groove reminscent of Tom Tom Club’s Genius of Love. There also a part in the song where they do an amusing job at pretending they’re DFA1979.
Both bands also have very playful and charming videos that are worth checking out before summer is officially over.
