Thursday - Asobi Seksu (mp3)

God Damn those Japanese Lead Vocals. You got the ethereal one from Blonde Redhead, the weird one from Deerhoof, and the pretty one from Asobi Seksu leading indie music to developing the asian fetish of the musical sense. Asobi Seksu sounds like My Bloody Valentine fronted by a J-Pop Hipster Star. Lush, swelling guitar work bring hook after hook to match the hook after hook crafted by the beautiful soaring voice of front woman Yuki. Thursday brings the catchy melodies and driving emotions to such a peak that it feels like it could easily soundtrack one of those John Cusack movies where he makes a revelation standing in the middle of a rainstorm. You know exactly what scene I’m talking about! Just pick one.

Strawberries (CWL Remix) - Asobi Seksu (mp3)

For a more recent entry, the CWL remix of Strawberries replaces those shoegazing guitar work with a piano driven electro bass line but still keeps those wonderful quirky vocal hooks.
