Differnet - Subtle Glitch Pop
Tuesday, October 17th, 2006
Subtlety and refine delicateness are the specialties of this Electronica Outfit from Sweden. Differnet’s music has the natural flow of liquid, or of ice water to be more poignant. Blips, static, all kinds of new inorganic sounds are constantly shifting–phasing in and out like a fluctuating radio channel–through the run of the song. Swimming in this aural vortex is a very beautiful angelic voice that harmonizes with the other motions of the song through its own nuances and modulations applied by Differnet’s pristine production.
Conflictionary (Barricade Builders of the World Unite and Take Over) - Differnet (mp3)
Conflictionary is as perfect as it is perplexing. The lyrics speak of violent blood-red protest while the song itself sounds as calm and natural as dew drops dripping gracefully off green leaves. On several levels, this song can fit easily into the flow of Radiohead’s OK Computer. Aesthetic similiarities are obvious. On conceptual terms, Conflictionary follows the same cathartic paths of an Ok Computer song. A protaganist proclaims certain virtues and philosophies until the half way point of the song when a sudden revelation/relapse/brainwashing changes the individual’s mind. In Conflictionary’s case, the metamophosis starts with the gears of protest slowly stuttering up to momentum and numbers to vehement demands of bloodshed and finally to a collapse into exhausted realization that this battle is perpetual. It’s an amazing ride to say the least.
Caligula - Differnet (mp3)
I never heard anything that sounds like Caligula. Atleast not outside my dreams. Imagine you’re clinging onto a rock in the middle of a stream that ebs and flows around you carrying the flotsam and jetsam of the day’s memories by you. Sights and sounds phase in and out. Sometimes turbulent, sometimes gentle. A disembodied voice. A solar flare bursting into rain fall. And you wake.
