Erol’s Bugged out Klaxons Remix

Sunday, January 14th, 2007

Well, Erol Alkan has done it again. My favorite track from last year was his remix of Justice’s Waters of Nazareth. Now he’s already has a shoe in for my favorite track for 2007. Over the Holidays, Erol gave us a teaser with an instrumental track of his new remix of Klaxon’s Golden Skans. (Be sure to check out the video for original video). The instrumental killed but he promised that the vocal version will be even more mindblowing. He wasn’t kidding around. A huge credit goes to the original’s spooked-out harmonies of the Klaxons. This remix is the last of Erol’s so called Balearia Trilogy which includes his superb Hotchip remix.

What does it sounds like? Try imagining Captain Nemo’s Nautilus stuck in a time warp with the voices of the Klaxons praying to be set free, with the organs and paino in the captain’s ready room working full force. Simply astounding. The white lables will sell fast.

Calling All Kids to Electro

I’ve taken for granted what a fun time and excellent taste Eamon Harkin wields behind the decks. Judging from his set at Hiro Ballroom last week, Calling all kids should be a great dance party. Also James Friedman is no joke either. One of the best international DJs from NYC. And lets not forget our favorite lady host, JaiDee Valentine.

Calling All Kids @ Luke & Leroy

!!! Are Back!!!

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

Now with the disbandment of their electronica unit, Outhud, the members of !!! can concentrate on making sick grooves like Heart of Hearts. Another solid track to go along with Me and Guiliani. Dark moody groove, lots of delayed staccato guitar rhythms, and Nic’s no-nonsense vocals. They also have a new female singer to give Nic much needed help on his characteristically weak vocal pipes. Be ready to hear this one plenty at the parties in the city.

Lovelight (Soulwax Ravelight Dub Mix)

Sunday, January 7th, 2007

I’m not too big of a Robbie Williams fan. In fact I haven’t even heard the original source. All I can think about is the monstrous buildup featured in Soulwax’s remix of LoveLight. Eamon Harkin destroyed the dance floor with this song right before Peter Hook got on at last week’s party at Hiro Ballroom. It was a tough act to follow, even for a beast like Peter Hook. Luckily the legend unabashedly unleashed a torrential bombardment of New Order Classics.

Phantom Justice

Saturday, January 6th, 2007

Here it is better late than never. Justice’s “new” track is vying to out do Waters of Nazareth. Very spastic distorted riffs, intermittent burst of serious fuzz outs, and sweet break beats solidify Justice’s status as uber-cool french producers. Now only if Erol Alkan does another sick remix.

As a bonus there’s also a remix by Faex that collages this electro freakout with the fanfares and rolling timpanis from the original early 20th century french crime drama, Phantom Justice.
