Monthly Electro Recap
Thursday, January 4th, 2007
This is the inaugural installment of BohemianPlayboy’s Monthly Electro Recap. It’s essentially an installment that covers a quality selection of sick tunes I hear during the month of Dance Parties in NYC. For this one in particular, I’m gonna do a quick primer on several sick tracks that tore up the dance floor in 2006 that are still smoking hot this month. Use it as a litmus test for a dance party. If you hear any of these songs dropped, you know the DJ knows what’s going on.
Justice - Waters of Nazareth (Erol Alkan Dur-Dur-Durr Remix) (mp3)
My favorite song of 2006. Erol Alkan chooses the best variation in Justice’s original track and makes a pummeling electro anthemn out of it. How bad ass is it? Besides the ridiculous cymbal action, there’s a guy whacking a street barrel with a two hand sledge hammer for percusion. You know the ones where the bums in philly stand around to keep warm. Sparks will Fly and your mind will relapse into Dur Dur Durr.
Cut Copy - Going Nowhere (Digitalism Mix) (mp3)
Digitalism adds a fun joy ride of a bass line to an already great tune by Cut Copy and serious amounts of cymbal.
The Gossip - Standing in the way of Control (Soulwax Nite Version Mix) (mp3)
Great female vocal tracks over another sick bouncy Soulwax bass line. The vocals alone could have carried the dance track.
Klaxons - Magick (Simian Mobile Disco Mix) (mp3)
Simian Mobile Disco takes the breakdown from Klaxon’s Magick and turns it into a harrowing monster of a freak out. The whole track sounds like a Final Fantasy Character charging up and unleashing a sick Summon Spell.
And for those of you saying hey lets here something brand new, tune in tomorrow for a new track from Justice.
