Midnight Movies
The beginning of Souvenirs sounds like a dirty projector gearing up in a damp, dusty theater on Sunset Blvd circa 1960s. The murky surrondings does nothing to dampen the beautiful image it projects. The vocal stylings of Midnight Movies, Gena Olivier, is very indebt to Nico but clearly works very well with this band. Not as bleak as the Iconic Blonde’s, there’s always a tinge of hope carrying each of Gena’s delivery. Both Souvenir and lead single, Patient Eye, place this up and coming L.A. band along the likes of the other exceptional artists that mine the film noir dreamscape À la Broadcast.
